Catalogue Note

Mario di Giampaolo (loc.cit.) writes that this drawing was brought to his attention by Philip Pouncey, who first made the attribution to Bedoli.  He dates it in the 1540s and compares it stylistically to two other drawings of the same period: The Mystic Marriage of St. Catherine, sold in these Rooms, 1 July 1971, lot 193; and the Madonna and Child with St. John the Baptist, in the Royal Institute of Cornwall, Truro (see Literature, nos. 81 and 131, both reproduced).
