The drawings of de Vadder can be difficult to distinguish from those of certain other Flemish landscape artists of his time, notably Jacques d'Artois and Lucas van Uden, and the style of even his signed sheets varies considerably.  This drawing may, however, be compared to a sheet given to de Vadder, in the Courtauld Institute, London (inv. no. 1003), in which the use of wash, and the free pen-work with which branches have been suggested are notably similar (see D. Farr and W. Bradford, The Northern Landscape, London 1986, pp. 72-3, cat. no. 24).
