Catalogue Note
Van der Kabel was a pupil of Jan van Goyen, whose influence may be seen in this drawing. After having studied in Holland, he left for Lyon, where he spent five years before travelling to Rome. Several years later he returned to Lyon, where he lived and worked until his death in January 1705.
