Catalogue Note
The Mr. Palthe referred to in the artist's dedication was probably the portraitist Jan Palthe (Deventer 1719 - 1769 Leiden), a notable figure in his time, who contributed to the Album Amicorum of Arnout Vosmaer, curator of the Stadholder's natural history collections (see M. Plomp, Hartstochtelijk Verzameld, 18de-eeuwse Hollandse verzamelaars van tekeningen en hun collecties, Bussum 2001, p. 123).
