Catalogue Note
The present picture depicts Britannia leading the newly built Ailsa as they sail past the mark boat off Hunter's Quay on the Firth of Clyde. The Commodore's steam yacht Gretta lies at anchor to starboard. The two graceful cutters are going windward in ideal conditions. Britannia was built in 1893 for Edward, Prince of Wales. Ailsa was designed in Fife, and closely followed the design of Britannia. She was built for A.D. Walker.
