Catalogue Note

H.M.S.Edgar, steam and sail and fitted with an engine and screw, was launched at Woolwich in October 1858. She was a second rate of 5157 tons and carried a total of 91 guns ranging in size from 11 inches down. Remaining in service with the Royal Navy until February 1870 she was then given over to the Customs for use as a hulk until 1904.
