Catalogue Note

George IV arrived at Leith on 14th August 1822.  The trip was masterminded by Sir Walter Scott, and was a resounding success.  The King amused his subjects by adorning his considerable bulk in full Highland dress, and left his northern kingdom on 29th August, impressed and gratified.
