  • 8.2 by 8 and 7.7 by 7.4cm., 3 1/4 by 3 1/8 and 3 by 2 7/8 in.
each of oval form, carved and pierced in negative silhouette with two flying moths, on a finely polished ground, unsigned; with tomobako, bearing a hakogaki by Dr Kazutaro Torigoe

Catalogue Note

Kamiyoshi Rakuju (1817-1884) studied under his father Fukanobu and was considered the finest artist of the family school. He was well known for the silken surface of his tsuba, a facet well illustrated in the present examples.
