Willie McCovey 1969 All-Star Game Bat

bidding is closed

Description

The original “Big Mac” was the best offensive player in the National League, and possibly baseball, from 1969-1971. In 1969 he peaked with 45 homers and 126 RBI. His .320 batting average was fifth in the league, but he won the other two legs of the triple crown. He also led the league in virtually every other important offensive measurement on his way to securing league MVP honors. The cherry on top of McCovey’s ultimate season came with his incredible performance in the 1969 Midsummer Classic. McCovey led a murderous assault on American League pitchers Mel Stottlemyre and his successor, Blue Moon Odom, blasting two tape measure home runs out of Washington’s R.F.K. Memorial Stadium. His two homers earned him game MVP status and tied an All-Star record equaled by Arky Vaughan (1941), Ted Williams (1946) and Al Rosen (1954). This special order bat was of only two of its kind shipped to McCovey for use in this memorable game according to H&B factory records. The block letter barrel markings on this H&B K55 read, “All-Star Game - Willie McCovey – 1969 Washington”. Indications of game use are readily apparent. LOA: SCD Authentic (A9).
