2001 Upper Deck SP Authentic Babe Ruth Sultan of Swatch Game Used Uniform Near Set (19 of 21) Including 8 cards numbered “3”

bidding is closed

Description

This 21 card set highlights some of the most significant achievements from Babe Ruth's career. Each card features a swatch of a Babe Ruth game used uniform (most likely pants) and is hand numbered in blue ink on the front. The total amount of each card produced reflects either the year or statistical figure of the event it represents. For example, there were 20 examples produced of card #9 which features Babe Ruth's 1920 home run title. Since the fewest number of cards produced of any of the 21 cards in the series is 14 (Upper Deck made 14 card #1's), there can only be 14 possible sets in existence. That being said, when you consider how many of these cards are spread throughout personal collections, it is likely that few, if any, complete sets exist.  Offered here are 19 of the 21 cards (missing only card #6 and #16). Eight of the cards are the number 3 of their respective type. In other words, card #SOS2 in this lot is card number 3 of 29. Of all the Sultan of Swatch cards in existence, the cards numbered 3 are the most desirable as they reflect Ruth's uniform number. Cards #SOS10, #S0S13, #S0S14, and #SOS15 included in this lot are the last numbered cards for their respective series. For example, card #SOS14 features Babe Ruth's home run title from 1927. The card included here is card #27 of 27. The following is a breakdown of card numbers: Card #SOS1 07/14, #SOS2 03/29, #SOS3 62/94, #SOS4 06/54, #SOS5 03/59, #SOS7 03/27, #SOS8 03/32, #SOS9 07/20, #SOS10 21/21, #SOS11 06/23, #SOS12 03/24, #SOS13 26/26, #SOS14 27/27, #SOS15 28/28, #SOS17 03/30, #SOS18 03/31, #SOS19 03/33, #SOS20 02/36 and #SOS21 04/48. It is notable to collectors that two of the Sultan of Swatch cards feature Ruth pictured with the Red Sox while the uniform swatch on the card is a Yankees pinstripe uniform. Each card has been encapsulated by PSA and designated as Authentic.
