Relative to the number of baseballs Babe Ruth signed throughout his life, autographed bats are in far less supply. This is easily understood considering the medium is far less portable and more expensive. Of the limited population of signed Ruth bats known, few boast a signature and inscription comparable to that offered here. This D&M Sporting Goods child’s model bat has been painted silver, creating a uniquely contrasting canvas for Ruth’s writing which reads, “To Joseph Bihler Best Wishes From Babe Ruth Jan. 22-1931”. The dark fountain pen inscription rates 9/10. Bihler’s access to the Babe is explained by his position as an assistant to Ruth’s agent Christy Walsh.
