This handsigned portrait of Ashe in his Davis Cup uniform is circa late 1960's, when Ashe led the US team to winning three straight cups from 1968-1970. In 1968, Ashe won 11 straight singles matches in taking the Cup away from Australia. In 1969, he helped the US defeat Romania and in 1970, Ashe defeated Christian Kuhnke in West Germany to retain the Cup. Ashe played 10 years of Davis Cup tennis, winning 27 matches, second only to John McEnroe's record 41 wins.
