Muhammad Ali Black Sparring Gloves, Circa 1970s
bidding is closed
Description
Made for Muhammad Ali in the mid-1970's , these training gloves are made of black leather and weigh 16 ounces. There is an Everlast manufacturer’s label on each wrist. Included on the label is the additional logo, Made Expressly For Muhammad Ali. The gloves have their original white laces.
The gloves came from the collection of long time Muhammad Ali collector, Peter Morkovin, who believes them to have been used in training for the Ali-Frazier III fight in 1975. The Everlast label dates the gloves to the mid 1970’s and these are oversized gloves used by a fighter during sparring sessions, two indicators that they could have been used in training for that fight. The gloves also show substantial wear. These well worn gloves may have been used in training for his third fight with Joe Frazier and for other fights as well. LOA: JO Sports, Inc. (Craig Hamilton).
