Reggie Jackson's 1967 Kansas City A's Rookie Jersey

bidding is closed

Description

The self proclaimed "straw that stirred the drink," Reggie Jackson was a winner wherever he played. The outspoken, flamboyant, muscular outfielder played in 17 post-season series, earning five World Series rings over a 16 year stretch. He won the home run title playing for three different teams and provided some of the most dramatic home runs in history. The offered jersey was donned by Reggie in his first season in the bigs after emerging from Arizona State as a multi-sport star. His 1967 Kansas City Athletics sleeveless flannel road jersey green features the teams "A's" logo on front and the number “9” on both front and back. Original tagging includes a Wilson label on the tail with a "67-1" chain stitched year tag. Initially issued to Roger Repoz in the beginning of the season, Reggie's number 9 was later issued to Jackson when he joined the team that year. Jackson has signed the jersey in the collar and the shirt is accompanied by his signed note to famed collector Barry Halper on an index card that reads, "Barry-This certifies that this shirt is my 1st shirt worn in the big leagues. I'm glad you have it!-Aug. 3,85-Reggie Jackson". Beginning with Barry Halper, the jersey's chain of ownership includes the Upper Deck trading card company, who purchased it and subsequently gave it away in a well publicized contest along with game used jerseys from Ty Cobb and Lou Gehrig. This is the ultimate game used artifact from this prolific slugger, in completely original and unaltered condition. Includes a LOA from Reggie Jackson himself.  Ex – Barry Halper Collection. Additional LOAs from JSA and PSA/DNA.
