Catalogue Note

The firm of Holland & Sons, one of the largest manufacturers of high quality furniture in London during the second half of the 19th century, was appointed Royal cabinet-maker in 1846, supplying furniture for Osborne House, Sandringham and Balmoral. Previously known as Taprell and Holland, the name was changed to Holland & Sons in 1843. Trade directories of the 1830s and 40s show the firm's gallery at 19 Marylebone Street, and in 1852, at Mount Street.
