Catalogue Note

The sitter was the daughter of Robert Carr, Earl of Somerset. In 1637 she married William, Lord Russell, 5th Earl and later 1st Duke of Bedford.

This picture derives from a portrait by Sir Anthony Van Dyck which hangs at Petworth.
