Catalogue Note
James Purdey & Sons confirm that the guns were built in 1878. It is thought that this pair of guns are the only pair of 28-bore hammer guns to have been completed in the company's history.
The guns were extensively refurbished by Purdey's in 1989 and 1994 respectively. Each gun was restored to a new condition including the fitting of new barrels and stocks, refinishing of all metalwork and replacement of any defective or worn parts. The guns are now in an "as new" condition and have remained unused since this work was completed. They remain a most exceptional pair of guns.
