Catalogue Note
Jacquet was a pupil of Louis Jéhotte whilst at the Académie de Bruxelles. He had his debut at the Salon de Bruxelles in 1842. Many public commissions followed including the statue of La Reine Louise-Marie at Phillipeville. Jacquet became professor of sculpture at the Académie des Beaux Arts de Bruxelles in 1863. The present model may be identifiable with the La première nuit d'exil d'Eve which was exhibited in plaster at the Brussels Salon in 1848.
