Catalogue Note
The majesty and strength of bulls appealed to Bonheur and he exhibited no less than ten models of cattle at the Salon. Bonheur was dedicated to anatomical exactness; his model of the Normandy Cow has enabled breeding experts to see how little the breed has changed in over a hundred years. Taureau Chargeant was shown at the Salon in 1865, together with a pendant model of a standing bull. Casts of the pair were ordered for the Sultan Abdul-Aziz's Palace in Constantinople.
