CATALOGUE NOTE

Regarded by many as 'the supreme representative' of the New Sculpture, Ford, according to Beattie, 'inspired the more successful attempts to define its special identity.' Like many of his British contemporaries, Ford was inspired by émigré sculptor Jules Dalou's terracottas on the theme of Mother and child.
