Catalogue Note
Bock is best known as one of the founders of German botanical studies, and as the discoverer of many species. The Neu Kreütterbuch was first published in 1539 without illustrations, and then again in 1546 with illustrations. The present edition, edited by Melchior Sebizius, includes as a fourth part the Speisskammer, which was first printed separately in 1550 and is concerned with the four elements, wind, fire, water and earth, and various food products and wine.
