Catalogue Note

Philip and Muriel Berman began by collecting French Impressionist paintings and American paintings before turning towards European Modernism, with a particular emphasis on sculpture. Above all else, monumental outdoor sculpture ignited their passion, and they became tireless in their pursuit of large bronze masterpieces by some of the 20^th century’s most prominent sculptors such as Maillol, Moore, Hepworth, Miró and Chadwick, as well as more contemporary artists like Flanagan and Pommodoro.
