Catalogue Note
Philip and Muriel Berman began by collecting French Impressionist paintings and American paintings before turning towards European Modernism, with a particular emphasis on sculpture. Above all else, monumental outdoor sculpture ignited their passion, and they became tireless in their pursuit of large bronze masterpieces by some of the 20th century’s most prominent sculptors such as Maillol, Moore, Hepworth, Miró and Chadwick, as well as more contemporary artists like Flanagan and Pommodoro.
