Catalogue Note
Henry Burges was the elder brother of Ynyr Burges of Reigate, Surrey. He made one voyage to the East as Captain of the East Indiaman, The Earl of Chesterfield, which sailed from Torbay to Bombay and China on 14th January, 1793 and was back at her moorings on 30th August, 1794. These watercolours, therefore, date in all probability from the autumn of 1793
