Catalogue Note

The sitter was one of the most famous actresses of her day. Her first appearance was at Richmond in 1792, as Julia in "The Surrender of Calais", and her last appearance was as Emilia in "Othello" at the Haymarket on October 8, 1812. She died in 1854.
