Catalogue Note

This rare ''Morris'' chair was part of an original suite of important Stickley furniture acquired in 1902 for a private residence in Kennebunkport, Maine. The chair has remained in this house until the present date. Between 1901 and 1903, the Craftsman Workshops produced the bow-arm ''Morris'' chair in several variants, including narrow arms with reverse-tapered legs, wide arms with reverse-tapered legs, wide arms with straight legs, and wide arms with cut-corners and straight legs. The chair presently offered is a fine example of one of the rarest variants. The bow-arm ''Morris'' chair was one of the firm's most successful designs. A more commercially viable version of the chair was produced in larger quantities between 1904 through the end of Stickley's production.
