Catalogue Note
A letter from Armand Pushman, the artist's son, states: "The figure painting 'Youth' represents one of my father's best works in the style he painted in the early twenties, that is, figures and types in composition form... 'Youth' was painted in Paris in 1924." The artist's nephew, Paul Donchian writes, "About the model I can tell you this much--she was a girl 14 years of age of Spanish and French parents. She was a model for some sculpters [sic] and Mr. Pushman borrowed her for this picture. I do no know of any other painting for which he used her."
A copy of Arts & Decoration and copies of letters from Armand Pushman and Paul Donchian will accompany the lot.
