Catalogue Note

According to Patricia Hills, although this picture was painted in 1880 (the year is was exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association), it was most likely painted circa 1865.  The model is thought to be the artist's nephew.  There is another less finished version of Feather Duster Boy at the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio.
