Catalogue Note
In a letter dated November 16, 1921, Louis Aston Knight wrote to Frank Belknap, the original owner of the present work, "I am glad that you are the owner of that strong picture which I painted on our place. Beaumont-le-Roger is most picturesque and in spite of having worked there for fifteen years it is there that I purchased our country home. . . .I enclose a postcard of our house and another of a picture also painted on our place about 150 yards below where yours was done. It was purchased by Mr. Harding, our President and it now hangs in his private collection at the White House."
