This cat was designed to be realized in different media, and examples are known in plaster, porcelain, and pressed paper.  A bronze example is in the collection of the Musée du Petit Palais, Geneva.  However, as Félix Marcilhac writes in his catalogue raisonné, black marble is particularly mysterious, and the play of light on the sculpture transforms the domestic animal into a ritual statue.
