Catalogue Note

From 1945-1950, Treitel Gratz, an important New York metalwork company, provided racks to hold audio and television equipment for CBS.  The present owner of these chairs was a project engineer for CBS at that time and received the pieces as a Christmas gift in 1950 directly from the manufacturer. 

This chair model shared the first prize in the Museum of Modern Art's International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design held in 1950, and it was retailed with and without an upholstered pad.
