Standard Furniture Company, founded in 1886 in Herkimer, New York, was one of the largest manufacturers of office desks and wood furniture in the United States.  In response to Standard's prolific production, Herkimer became known as the ''desk capital of the world.''  Sotheby's wishes to thank Susan R.
