Catalogue Note

Painted in 1952. At the forefront of the Surrealist Movement, Granell was acquainted with all the leading Surrealists and Dadaists in Paris in the 1930s, including André Breton (fig. 1) and Wilfredo Lam. Leaving Spain for Puerto Rico during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39) Granell worked at the University there, where he became an influential teacher.
