Catalogue Note

Constantly travelling throughout Spain in search of new motifs, the present view of the beach at Pals in Gerona shows the artist's fascination with light and atmosphere and his ability to interpret the immensities of both the sea and sky.

A pupil of Antonio Caba and Ramón Martí Alsina, Eliseo Meifrén worked closely with the Sitges School of painters. The landscape artist Joan Roig i Soler had a decisive influence on his work. Favouring landscapes both in oil and watercolour, Meifén exhibited his work regularly from 1881 onwards both in Madrid and Barcelona, holding his first one man exhibition in Barcelona in Sala Parés in 1890.
