Pio Fedi

Fedi trained with with two of Italy's great marble masters: Lorenzo Bartolini in Florence, and subsequently Pietro Tenerani in Rome. The influences of both can be seen in Fedi's combination of robust naturalism, which stemmed from Bartolini, suffused with the neo-classical vocabulary of Tenerani.  The Supreme Fisher Boy, executed at the height of the artist's career, represents the culmintation of all Fedi had learned from fellow Italian masters, while revealing his own very unique sense of spontaneity, originality, and subtle humor.
