Catalogue Note
The second edition of the text and the second printing of the Narratio of Rheticus. A former owner of this copy was Euclid Speidell (fl. 1662-1702) who followed his father John as a teacher of mathematics. He was recommended as a teacher by the instrument-maker John Brown in 1662, when he had a chamber in Threadneedle Street. In about 1671 he became a Custom House officer and shortly before his death was given a part-time clerkship under Charles Godolphin, Commissioner of Customs. His works, mostly editions of textbooks, include Logarithmotechnia, of which Robert Hooke was very critical.
