Catalogue Note
Sarah, Lady Piers was wife of Sir George Piers (1670-1720), soldier and Clerk of the Privy Seal. She was encouraged to write poems (initially under the sobriquet "Urania") by her close friend the dramatist Catherine Trotter, a friendship that was satirised as "beyond what Nature design'd" by Delariviere Manley.
This volume is inscribed, quite possibly by the author, "To my Honest Dear Kinsman, Mr: Ralph Bosville".
