Catalogue Note

The game of 'La Gallina Ciega', or Blind Man's Buff was a popular pursuit in Spain during the 18th century. The subject was depicted, among others, by Francisco de Goya in around 1788-89 as one of a series of tapestry cartoons for the bedchamber of the Infantas at El Pardo. The artist's original sketch and final cartoon are today in the Museo del Prado, Madrid (see P. Gassier and J. Wilson, Goya. His Life and Work, London 1971, p. 98, cat. nos. 275 & 276, reproduced p. 69).
