The style of this painting is consistent with portraits produced in Madrid during the early 1630s. The distinctive hairstyle of the sitter can be compared, for example, with those worn by the Infanta Doña María, Queen of Hungary and by Doña Antonia Ipeñarrieta y Galdós, both potrayed by Velázquez around 1630-32 (see J. López-Rey, Velázquez. Catalogue Raisonné, Cologne 1996, pp. 48-49, cat. no. 48, and pp. 134-35, cat. no. 54, both reproduced).
