Catalogue Note
One of a series of twelve pairs of children dressed as characters from the Commedia dell'Arte modelled by Kändler in 1765 for the Count von Kayserling. Kändler's work notes of June 1765 describe several of the figures, including "eine Tantzende Figur [...] als eine Compagnionin zum Prigello in schöner action und behöriger Kleidung..." [a dancing figure...as a female companion to Brighello in a beautiful pose and appropriate costume]. See Meredith Chilton, Harlequin Unmasked, no.122, for a discussion of the series.
