Catalogue Note

Hélène de Sparte, a tragedy in four acts by Emile Verhaeren with music by Déodat de Sévérac, directed by Alexander Sanine, with decor and costumes designed by Léon Bakst, and with Ida Rubenstein in the title role. Hélène de Sparte was first produced by the Ida Rubnstein Company as one of her `Spectacles de Gala,' at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris on May 4, 1912.

Judging by the short tunic costume, the present work is most likely a design for a shepherd.
