Marion Mahony

Marion Mahony was the second female to attend the School of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston and the first woman to be licensed as an architect in the United States.  In 1895 she returned to her native Chicago and joined Frank Lloyd Wright's Oak Park architecural firm.  During her fourteen-year tenure with Wright, Mahony became one of the firm's senior designers and draftsmen.  She executed renderings for many of the furnishings in Wright's houses including murals, mosaics, furniture, windows and lighting fixtures, and she likely executed most of the drawings in the Wasmuth portfolio.  Windows designed by Mahony from this same commission are in the collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
