Catalogue Note
The 'Lunn Gallery stamp' was produced, with Evans's approval, by George Rinhart in 1975 as a means of authentication for the large archive of prints in the photographer's studio which Evans was by then too ill to sign. The key of gallery reference numbers, to which the pencil annotations pertain, was created by Harry H. Lunn and Maurizia Grossman for the Lunn Gallery.
For this print, 'II' refers to MoMA's 1971 Walker Evans exhibition, '58' to the page number for the print in the exhibition catalogue, and 'V' stands for variant of the image in the exhibition.
