- Wilde, Oscar.
This letter is written to the celebrated actor-manager Herbert Beerbohm Tree (1853-1917), half-brother of Max Beerbohm and, from 1887 to 1897, manager of the Haymarket Theatre. It was presumably written around the time Wilde had contracted (in 1893) to write a play for the actor-manager John Hare (1844-1921). In the event, the play offered by Wilde, An Ideal Husband, was rejected by Hare because he disliked the last act. The play was subsequently produced by Beerbohm Tree at the Haymarket Theatre on 3 January 1895.
This letter is unpublished (not in Complete Letters).
