Catalogue Note
This picture was painted either in Antwerp, where Van der Mijn went following the death of his patron, the Elector Palatine, in Düsseldorf in 1716, or in London, where he settled sometime between then and 1721. Wherever it was done, it strongly reflects the Court taste of the Elector, and it is surely no coincidence that it is strongly reminiscent of the Elector's favourite Court Painter, Adriaen van der Werff.
