Catalogue Note
This was a popular subject for Van Tilborgh. Similarly composed depictions of peasants feasting outside inns were sold in these Rooms, 2 July 1986, lot 170, and at Christie's Amsterdam, 9 May 2001, lot 115. The former picture is dated 1659 and the latter 1657, the same year in which the present picture was painted.
