Catalogue Note
This is probably the first version of a composition that Snijders subsequently employed in a painting with a different landscape - also by Wildens - in the Royal Collection, Kensington Palace, inv. no. 704 (signed by Snijders and dated 1653, oil on canvas, 202 by 350 cm.; see H. Robels, Frans Snyders, Munich 1989, pp. 334-5, no. 236, reproduced).
