Catalogue Note
Pieter Snayers worked in the service of the Cardinal Infante Ferdinand (1609 - 1641), son of King Phillip III of Spain and Margaret of Austria, who became Governor of the Low Countries. The form of signature on the present work, in which the artist includes the initials S.C.I. (Serenissimae Cardinalis Infantis), suggests that this work may have been intended for this important patron.
