Catalogue Note
The motif of a rider tying his boot was a favourite of Verbeeck's: it may be found, for example, in the picture in the Frans Hals Museum (see L.J. Bol, Holländische Maler des 17. Jahrhunderts nähe den grossen Meistern, Braunschweig 1969, pp. 250-1, reproduced fig. 242).
