J.P. Richter, 1901, p. 28, no. 71(as anonymous).

Catalogue Note

The attribution was first suggested by the late Philip Pouncey. These studies may possibly be related to two music making angels in the foreground of a painting of Saint Cecilia with angels in the collections of the Bob Jones University, Greenville, Carolina, although the pose of the left hand angel has been reversed. The Greenville painting bears a traditional attribution to Brandi, but has also been linked to his contemporary Giovanni Battista Benaschi (1636-88).
