Catalogue Note

Salomon Rombouts made a speciality of painting densely wooded lanscapes, usually of upright format, which are strongly influenced by Jacob van Ruisdael's early paintings, and share the greater master's careful observation of trees at various times of the year and at various stages of maturity.
